


Samart expands into new businesses Targeting Bt50 bn revenues in 2013
Samart Corporation reveals a 3-year plan to achieve a sustainable growth with a clear target to generate Bt 50 billion revenues in 2013. For 2011, it sets to increase its revenues by 60 % from last year to Bt 29 billion through capitalizing on existing businesses and expanding into utilities areas.
Samart's President Watchai Vilailuck said, 'We cannot only look at annual numbers but have to also put our focus on materializing our long-term goal. Since our today's businesses, be they telecommunications or mobile multimedia services, have already become self-sustaining with stable incomes, we are now ready to make a serious expansion into new business areas.'
The recent purchase of shares back from AXIATA by the founding Vilailuck family together with the company's strong financial and good credibility among financial institutions provides Samart with more flexibility to invest in new businesses.
The company recently set up a new line of business called the Utilities Services to focus on energy, transportation and utilities businesses. Four related subsidiaries have been grouped under the new business line including Cambodia Air Traffic Services Co., Ltd., Kampot Power Plant Co., Ltd., Suvarnabhumi Environment Care Co.,Ltd. and Samart RadiTech Co.,Ltd.
Samart has also recruited more professionals in technology to strengthen its team while exploring merging and acquisition opportunities to speed up business expansion and facilitate efficient knowledge transfer across the group.
Based on its 3-year plan, the company sets to generate Bt 50 billion by 2013, of which Bt 15 billion will come from ICT business, Bt 20 billion from mobile multimedia businesses, Bt 12 billion from utilities services, and another Bt 3 billion from other businesses.
For 2011, the company targets to make Bt 29 billion combined revenues, an increase by 60 per cent from the previous year, as detailed below:
Mobile Multimedia businesses are expected to grow by 20 % to Bt 10 billion in revenues with handset sales increased by 3.5 million units. The focus will be on developing new applications such as iMM Chat for i-Mobile markets both in Thailand and other countries. The company aims to be the leader in 3G contents, focusing on pushing out a variety of informative contents especially for travelling sector. It will also develop more 3G value-added services including Video Call Center to serve its existing and new i-Mobile 3GX (MVNO) customers. Currently, the company has 150,000 MVNO customers and expects to see the number increase to 500,000-600,000 by the end of this year. The company recently introduced a new 3G voice and data package for its Blackberry users for only Bt650 a month.
ICT solutions businesses are expected to generate Bt 16 billion in revenues, a record growth of 200 % from the previous year. The company has already secured projects worth over Bt 4 billion and eyes to win several other large-scaled projects including TOT's Bt 19 billion 3G network expansion, TOT's Bt 14 billion Next Generation Networks rollout, the Land Department's Bt 10 billion project, Projects worth around Bt 5 billion for the Provincial Electricity Authority and the Metropolitan Electricity Authority, and the Suvarnabhumi Airport's Bt 3 billion project.
Related businesses are targeted to generate Bt 2 billion revenues from One To One Contacts Co., Ltd., Samart Engineering Co., Ltd., and Vision and Security System Co., Ltd.
Utilities businesses are expected to generate revenues of Bt 1 billion from Cambodia Air Traffic Services Co., Ltd., Kampot Power Plant Co., Ltd., and Suvarnabhumi Environment Care Co., Ltd. The company also sets aside Bt 1 billion for new business investment which will generate additional revenues in the next 2-3 years.
Commenting on 2010's performance, Watchai said "Despite some economic and political uncertainties, we had quite a satisfactory performance in 2010 and project to have the total revenue of Bt 18 billion. With stronger and more professional workforce, we are confident that we will be able to achieve our targets and goals moving forward."
